Vegetarian festival in Bangkok 2014

Posted by

Today the Vegetarian Festival in Bangkok 2014 starts and it runs all the way to the 3rd October. Chinatown is the gathering point for the festivities.

During Tesagan Gin Je Festival (Vegetarian Festival) yellow and red flags that signal a shop or stall is selling food in line with the festival regulations can be seen above and along Yarrowat Road. You will also spot stickers and signs in shops across the city, from small noodle shops, 7-11, to large shopping malls like Paragon and food centers, but the best place to take part of this is in Chinatown, period!

Fake meat is one of the weird parts of the Vegetarian Festival in Bangkok. And because strong smelling foods like garlic and onions are not allowed during the festival, the food is kept simple, yet tasty.

So move over to Chinatown in the late afternoon to take part of the veggie food, dragon dance, Chinese opera, firework and enjoy the fun!

Sure enough this festival is crazier in Phuket, but I enjoy it more Bangkok style!
